Varnish Message Board
The plans call for varnish or thinned epoxy for the wood parts, but the West System Epoxy manual recommends that you not thin the epoxy because it will lose some of it's strength/water resistance. Are people thinning the epoxy or applying it full strength?

Eileen - A way to get good coverage and absorbtion with West Epoxy is to preheat the wood using a hairdryer or ceramic heater. After the wood is warm, remove the heat and apply the epoxy. It will flow/absorb better with less outgassing bubbles and retains all it's properties.

How about look at the products supplied by System Three. They have a clear coat epoxy that is as thin as water.

I would suggest using a thin epoxy, we were advised to use yacht varnish which we did. The varnish would not cure fully over epoxy as the hardener has an incompatability to it. I would agree that System 3 has a thin epoxy that we would look at on another project. Don't spray it without protection though !
